“Machins Choses” is the first single of the sophomore Long Player of Bachar Mar-Khalifé´s « Who’s Gonna Get The Ball From Behind the wall of the garden today?». This cover of Serge Gainsbourg (Percusssions, 1964) is constructed on a strange dialogue of implicit suggestions and answers full of hidden meaning.
The original version flirted coquettishly with Saint Germain-des-Pres`s jazzy atmosphere. Bachar turns it into a fragile piano-driven ballad, permeated with eroticism and enlightened by the universal accent of guest American vocalist Kid A (Agoria, Spitzer, Daedelus).
With over a decade of expertise in reworking the hottest pop gems (Depeche Mode, Goldfrapp, The Rapture, Chemical Brothers…), InFiné could not dream of any better remixer for Bachar´s cover than Ewan Pearson. Ewan sends the voice of Kid A up to the moon and paints Bachar`s piano with cosmic vintage effects. A worthy heir of Can, Neu and Cluster, Berlin trio Camera (Bureau B) deploys their
range of retro-futuristic sounds, immersing the listener in a delightfully Orwellian psychosis. InFiné`s latest discovery, Almeeva, abandons his post-rock aspirations for the ethereal waves of a “softcore” electronica, which would certainly have pleased the original author.
To conclude about this ep, how to say … quite a damn thing.
